He definitely designed the type of clothes we want to wear on a Sunday night in, curled up on the sofa. Tops and trousers came in beautiful soft fabrics. He also included several more sophisticated pieces that still carried a relaxed feel. Lemaire did also show a more sophisticated approach to comfortable clothing. Bang on trend was a chic green jumpsuit that looked oh so fab merely because it was showcased on the back of my girl crush, Chanel Iman. Trousers were wide legged and nipped in at the waist with a large waist band teamed with a baby blue feminine loose fitted tee and a dark blue throw.
His varied approach to comfortable loungewear from youthful jumpsuits to more sophisticated pieces is further evidence of Lemaine’s ability to attract both young customers and buyers, without alienating a more mature market.
One of my favourite pieces were the chunky knit cardigans, which will definitely be a wardrobe staple for the fall.
The strength of the collection lied in the fabrics on the coats. The colours came in rich creams and greys screaming luxe quality pieces. If there is one thing to invest in for the fall it’s a coat and the collection showcased several looks that will see you through the winter months.
Despite the quality of the fabrics, I wasn’t impressed with the layering that was often overbearing and serves as a distraction from each individual garment. The zombie like bondage on the trouser shoe combo was not as effective as we saw at the Givenchy couture shows. The hats were the least flattering pieces from the collection.
However, Lemaire did serve us with wearable, comfortable looks for fall. Whether we will be willing to pay the hefty price tag from them in the current economic climate, I am unsure.
